A gentle walk through native bush with spectacular views of golden beaches, rich in wildlife, local culture and history

This walk starts at the impressive Marahau Waharoa (Maori gateway); the southernmost entrance to the Park. From here we pass through regenerating native forest, gradually getting deeper into the bush with changing landscapes and spectacular views of beaches and islands. We see how the forest changes the further into the park we go, and walk amongst native tea trees and huge tree ferns. We will see birds such as the Bellbird and the prehistoric Weka, both unique to New Zealand. Your guide will share the rich, local history of the first Maori settlers and European explorers. We will stop at one of the Park’s amazing beaches for lunch, with the option for a swim in the pure blue seawater. At the end of our walk, we will enjoy a cruise back along the coast to Kaiteriteri on a comfortable boat complete with viewing decks and bar!
