Guided Walk and Kayak (one day)
Spend the morning being guided through lush, native bush, then paddle to an island wildlife sanctuary in the afternoon
Our walk starts at the impressive Marahau Waharoa (Maori gateway); the southernmost entrance to the Park. From here we pass through regenerating native forest, gradually getting deeper into the bush with changing landscapes and spectacular views of beaches and islands. We see how the forest changes the further into the park we go, and walk amongst native tea trees and huge tree ferns. Your guide will share the rich, local history of the first Maori settlers and European explorers. We will stop at Observation Beach for lunch with the option for a swim in the pure blue seawater, and where we meet our kayak guide. After lunch, we paddle from Observation Beach to the wildlife sanctuary of Adele Island. We take time to watch the antics of the New Zealand Fur Seals and listen to the multitude of native birdsong on the protected island sanctuary. We are sure to spot Pied Shags, White Fronted Turns and, if we’re lucky, perhaps a Blue Penguin. We then return to Observation Beach. At the end of our kayak, we enjoy a cruise back along the coast to Kaiteriteri on a comfortable boat complete with viewing decks and bar!
